The Complex on Sennaya (former Museum of Printing)
About
History of the building
Initially, the building housed merchant Plotnikov's tavern. In 1919, the building was nationalized, after which the city printing house was opened in it.
In November 2024, the building of the former Printing Museum was transferred to the operational management of the Serpukhov Museum, the exposition of which told visitors about the history of printing and journalism in Serpukhov.
The decision to transfer was made in order to preserve the unique cultural heritage of the city and ensure its accessibility to the general public. The Museum of Printing, which is a valuable historical artifact, houses a rich collection of printing presses, matrices, fonts and other exhibits demonstrating the evolution of printing over the centuries.
The exposition
Since January 2025, the staff of the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art has been working on the development of the museum building and preparing its exposition for opening in the summer of 2025.
On May 17, 2025, on the day of the international action "Night of Museums", the complex on Sennaya was opened.

Now the complex hosts interactive programs that are interesting for both children and adults. The exhibition invites guests to take a look into the world of fonts, printing presses and newspaper strips! Here you can learn how the first Serpukhov newspapers were created and how local journalism has lived since the 19th century, as well as see the authentic equipment of the ancient printing house and even learn how it worked.
